NPR StoryCorps Mobile unit in Tucson

http://www.storycorps.net/

Since 2003, over 35,000 everyday people have shared life stories with family and friends in our StoryBooths. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the Library of Congress. Millions listen to our broadcasts on public radio and the web. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind.

http://www.storycorps.net/blog/

MobileWest has found its new home between four mountain ranges, among thousands of cacti, and just north of the border in downtown Tucson. We are parked in front of the historic courthouse and next to the main library.

Halloween shenanigans w/ lightsticks

I was throwing these into the air in the backyard and my dogs were having a ball. But I didn't want them to bite into them. I started thinking about alternative methods of playing with these. I came up with a clear surgical style glove

I put the sticks down the backs of my fingers and turned off the lights. It's not perfect, but you can still move your fingers and the narrow sticks bend and look 'trippy' this might be worthwhile for some Halloween shenanigans, and the dogs ended up having fun biting my hand a bunch of times in the dark, so I wouldn't recommend this trick around Dobermans, unless you can con a burglar into wearing them

Accessing Arizona

There is a lot of places in Arizona such as the Grand Canyon which I have purposely not included as yet. It is not that they are not accessible or that I have forgotten, it's just that you can assume certain places are reasonably accessible. Someday I will cover the Grand Canyon when I have time to find unique points of interest. I do not want Accessing Arizona to become just another marketing website. I want it to offer content you could not find anywhere else...

Bats and Music Under a Tucson Bridge

Bat Country Under Tucson Bridges!

by FrankHarris on 09/18/08 at 7:44 pm

A bevy of bats billow out from the bridgeI have to say, it was just a series of little pink signs with clever rhymes, but seeing them day by day up and down Campbell Avenue definitely did a good job of intriguing me. I’d long seen bats flitting around at twilight in my neighborhood, and had wondered where it was they might sleep during the day. I definitely hadn’t been able to imagine any caves within the city, and I didn’t think they’d fly so far as to come from open desert…but under any of the bridges crossing the Rillito River? There was only one way to find out, and that was to attend Bat Night!
